Taxus Baccata Pompons (Niwaki Garden Bonsai Tree)

This mature and established Pom Pom Yew (Taxus Baccata) is a work of art. A living sculpture that has taken many years (approx. 10 years) to establish and shape into its current, striking Japanese style form. These Taxus Baccata Pompons are what is known as Niwaki trees. In Japan, Niwaki is the art of nurturing a garden tree or shrub to grow in a certain way or to conform to a certain shape in order to best showcase the natural features of the plant. The majestic Taxus Baccata (Yew) has many characteristics which make it suited to this kind of Japanese topiary. It is slow growing, evergreen with handsome foliage, hardy and reacts very well to clipping and trimming.

To maintain and keep this wonderful living sculpture healthy and happy, with the minimal of maintenance, then simply plant directly into the ground. The soil needs to be well-draining and fertile. If you live with heavy clay, make sure to add lots of organic compost to the soil you dig out and back fill with this mixture. It is always a good idea with heavy soils to mulch once a year in order improve the soil naturally with the help of worms.
