Cupressus Leylandii trees are often referred to as simply Leylandii, these are fast growing evergreen conifers that are mainly used for hedging and evergreen screening.
Cupressus leylandii are excellent screening trees if correctly maintained. Leylandii should be trimmed back twice or three times each year to keep their shape.
Leyland Cypress should not be cut back too hard beyond the green foliage as they do not re-shoot from wood. So they need consistent trims each year rather than letting them go and cutting back hard.
Leylandii trees are still the fastest and most cost effective way of achieving a neat tall hedge or screen in the garden.
They grow up to 1m per year (2-3ft).
