Dicksonia Antarctica is more commonly known as the Tasmanian Tree Fern and is probably the best known tree fern variety for growing here in Britain.
Originating from Australia and Tasmania this easily grown variety is perhaps the hardiest of the tree fern varieties but does need protection from extreme weather using fleece or straw to cover the crown of the fern. Although the Tasmanian Tree Fern is listed as evergreen the leaves sometimes die back in the winter if subjected to cold.
Dicksonia Antarctica are slow growing and their stout, slow growing fibrous trunks are crowned by widely arching palm-like dark green fronds, they are generally sold by Paramount Plants and Gardens at our London Plant Nursery from 1ft in height and they cost approx £25-35 per foot - we have all sizes available up to approx 13ft. Approx prices and sizes available shown in metric below. Our tree ferns will be graded according to thickness of trunk and the quantity of fronds so this will be reflected in the price particularly in the taller tree ferns.
