This is an upright, deciduous crab apple tree which produces bunches of white/pink flowers in late Spring.

The Malus John Downie is an ornamental summer fruit tree, fruits appear which are red and orange and stay until late autumn/ early winter. The fruits make excellent preserves and this is the most popular variety for making Crab Apple Jelly.

Also it acts as a pollinator for cooking and easting apples and foliage turns red/gold in autumn.
