Doodia Aspera is commonly known as the Rasp Fern.
Native to Australia and New Zealand this was the first Australian Fern to be brought back to Kew Gardens.
It is a half hardy fern with a low growing habit and is good for ground cover especially in shaded areas but it does require a very sheltered well drained position if it is left outside all year round.
The Rasp Fern is a most unusual fern with stunning, red stemmed fronds as new growth which become a deep green colour as the leaves age. The Rasp Fern's fronds are rough to the touch.
