Shaped shrubs and trees such as domed <a title=\"camellias\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/camellias.html\">Camellias<\/a>, <a title=\"photinia red robin shrub\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/phot\/photinia-red-robin-shrub.html\">Photinia Red Robins<\/a>, <a title=\"magnolias\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/magnolias.html\">Magnolias<\/a> and <a title=\"pinus pinea\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/pinuss\/pinus-pinea.html\">Pines<\/a> are the fashion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1621\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/pinuss\/pinus-pinea.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1621\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1621\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/shaped-pine-trees-italy.jpg\" alt=\"Shaped Pine Trees in Lago Maggiore\" width=\"600\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shaped Pine Trees in Lago Maggiore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even pruned and shaped <a title=\"japanese acers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/japanese-acers.html\">Japanese Acers<\/a> are abundant whereas in the UK these are rarely shaped.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1618\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/acerpb\/acer-palmatum-bloodgood.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1618\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pruned-japanese-acers-italy.jpg\" alt=\"Japanese acers - pruned to shape\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pruned Japanese Acer Bloodgood in Lombardy, Italy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If visiting this pristine and serene area be sure to visit the Giardini Botanici di Villa Taranto on Lake Maggiore for stunning views and some very ancient trees. Of particular interest were a couple of <a title=\"cornus contraversa variegata\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/corn\/cornus-contraversa-variegata.html\">Cornus Contraversa Variegated<\/a> \u2013 the Wedding Cake Tree. We would estimate that these were around 8-10m in height and glorious in this park-like environment. Every corner of these gardens had a new surprise.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1619\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/corn\/cornus-contraversa-variegata.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1619\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/wedding-cake-tree-italy.jpg\" alt=\"Cornus Contraversa Variegata - The Wedding Cake Tree for sale UK\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1619\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cornus Contraversa Variegata &#8211; The Wedding Cake Tree<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A grouping of <a title=\"tree ferns\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/dickant\/dicksonia-antarctica.html\">Dicksonia Antarctica Tree Ferns<\/a> was a real treat for us, as one of our very favourite plants. These were spectacular specimens (although we were told off for walking on the grass to get these photos!).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1631\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/dickant\/dicksonia-antarctica.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1631\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tree-ferns-italy.jpg\" alt=\"Dicksonia Antarctica growing in Northern Italy\" width=\"600\" height=\"436\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1631\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dicksonia Antarctica growing in Northern Italy<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a title=\"chusan palms\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/trachy\/trachycarpus-fortunei.html\">Trachycarpus Fortunei Palms<\/a> we expected to grow well, being the hardiest palm in the world, but they are surprisingly rich and lush dark green in the areas surrounding the Italian Lakes and the foliage grows shorter than normal probably due to the colder weather conditions in the winter.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1623\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/trachy\/trachycarpus-fortunei.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1623\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1623\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/chusan-palm-trees-italy.jpg\" alt=\"Trachycarpus Fortunei growing in Lago Maggiore\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1623\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Trachycarpus Fortunei growing in Lago Maggiore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Deep pink, glorious blue \/purple and white hydrangeas grow abundantly all along the lake areas. Hydrangea Paniculata (white flowering) seems to grow particularly large and bushy and has established itself well in this location.
