Plants for Pollinators – helping wildlife<\/p><\/div>\n

We all want to do our bit. Find our which plants help our wild pollinating insects including Hydrangeas, Ivys and Pyracantha.<\/p>\n

Nothing evokes that summer feeling quite like the gentle buzz of a busy bumble bee, happily gathering nectar and pollen. \u00a0Yet we are all sadly aware of the serious decline in numbers of our precious pollinators (honey bees, wild bees, butterflies, lacewings, hover flies, moths\u2026). The good news is \u2013 we can all help Mother Nature dramatically by creating a haven for the pollinators<\/a> in our gardens and outside spaces. And thanks to the efforts of the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society), it\u2019s easy to do.<\/p>\n

RHS Perfect for Pollinators Badge:<\/strong>
\nThe RHS has just launched a new initiative to help our pollinating insects. After much study, they have compiled a list of plants producing nectar and pollen to keep our bees and other pollinators happy. This is a very specific list, scientifically compiled to help you recognise which plants are best suited to helping our wild pollinators. All plants on this list are eligible to carry the RHS Perfect for Pollinators Badge.<\/p>\n

We have added the new RHS pollinator badge to all the relevant plants we have in stock so you can see at a glance which plants are RHS certified Perfect for Pollinators! This will help you find the right plants to encourage the pollinators into your garden.<\/p>\n

Mahonia Media Charity carries the Perfect for Pollinators badge<\/p><\/div>\n

And the choice is so wide! Here are just a few highlights:<\/strong>
\nPopular pollinator-friendly plant varieties include most cultivars of Hydrangea \u2013 eg Hydrangea Petiolaris Miranda <\/a>\u2013 a slow growing climbing hydrangea.\u00a0Also Hydrangea Macrophylla in a range of stunning blues, pinks and whites.<\/p>\n

Hydrangea – Plants for Pollinators, helping Bees & other Pollinating Insects<\/p><\/div>\n

Buxus Sempervirens<\/a> (Box) is a slow growing evergreen shrub, native to the UK, ideal for hedging<\/a> and topiary<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Much loved by bees is the Prunus Laurocerasus<\/a> (aka Cherry Laurel), a dense bushy evergreen shrub with white flowers followed by fruit.<\/p>\n

We have many many more, including Skimmia Japonica<\/a>, which is suitable for pots<\/a> making it ideal for patios and balconies.<\/p>\n

Perfect for pollinators and flowering now are majestic tree peonies which come in an array of colours!<\/p>\n

Other popular choices are Pyracantha Augustifolia<\/a> also known as Pyracantha Firethorn.\u00a0Also on the RHS list, Hedera Helix<\/a> (common ivy), again a plant native to the UK \u00a0as well as Boston Ivy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
