Pieris japonica<\/a> is one of seven varieties of the genus ‘Pieris’, famed as much for its striking, colour-changing foliage as for its flowers. Pieris Japonica<\/a>, of which there are over 100 known cultivars, is native to Japan and thrives in acidic (ericaceous) soil and usually prefers sunlight or partial shade.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t have acidic soil, you can grow Pieris Japonica in pots using ericaceous compost. Or you can plant them in the ground making sure you fill a hole around the plant with ericaceous compost and feed regularly with a feed for acid loving plants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pieris Japonica Flaming Silver<\/strong><\/a>
\nEvergreen Pieris Flaming Silver<\/a> produces fragrant white flowers in early spring followed by new foliage which is a bright, vibrant red before maturing into a pink colour. As the leaves mature, they turn a lush dark green. Pieris Flaming Silver<\/a> grows to an eventual height of circa 1 meter, making it an ideal shrub for urban gardens.<\/p>\n

\nPieris Japonica Katsura<\/a> (Japanese Pieris) has sizeable glossy leaves with striking maroon coloured new growth which turns green as the leaves age. In Spring, Pieris Katsura<\/a> has clusters of pink flowers that drape elegantly over the foliage. Slow growing, evergreen Pieris Katsura is perfect for pots and containers as well as urban gardens. Place is a sunny or partial shade position.<\/p>\n
