Great colour vistas can be achieved by creative use of differing shades of foliage. While, naturally enough, green tends to be the dominant foliage colour in most garden settings, red is a colour that is already naturally present, although sometimes in more subtle ways. Young leaves are often red, such those on rose bushes; many deciduous plants turn a vibrant red in the autumn months.\u00a0\u00a0We all know from our experience of autumn colour that red adds a rich warmth as well as bringing a strong focus.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Red has the right strength of presence to meet the vibrant greens head on and still stand out against the handsome green backdrop, creating a focal point as it beckons the eye. While most of you will be familiar with old favourites such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/pholittleredrobin\/photinia-fraseri-little-red-robin.html\">Photinia Red Robin<\/a>, let&#8217;s take a closer look at some other examples of <strong>plants with red leaves.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/berbthunadmiration\/berberis-thunbergi-admiration.html\">Berberis Thunbergii Admiration<\/a><\/strong> is a small, deciduous low growing shrub whose lovely red foliage turns vibrant red in autumn. Other <strong>Berberis varieties<\/strong> with red foliage include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/berbharlequin\/berberis-thunbergii-f-atropupurea-harlequin.html\">Berberis Thunbergii F Atropupurea Harlequin<\/a> with purple-pink foliage and\u00a0with red-purple leaves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/berbsuperba\/berberis-x-ottawensis-purprea-superba-barberry.html\">Berberis X Ottawensis Purpurea Superba Barberry<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/berbredcheif\/berberis-thunbergii-f-atropurpurea-red-chief.html\">Berberis Thunbergii F Atropurpurea Red Chief<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For red foliage that is uniquely heart-shaped, <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/cerciscfp\/cercis-canadensis-forest-pansy.html\">Cercis Canadensis Forest Pansy<\/a><\/strong> <\/em>is a beauty. Most of you know this as <strong>Virginia Creeper<\/strong> and its gorgeous red foliage needs little introduction.<\/p>\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/japanese-acers.html\">Japanese Acers<\/a><\/strong>.
