{"id":390,"date":"2011-09-09T14:50:48","date_gmt":"2011-09-09T14:50:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/?p=390"},"modified":"2019-08-08T10:53:18","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T10:53:18","slug":"magnolia-grandiflora","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/magnolia-grandiflora\/","title":{"rendered":"Magnolia Grandiflora creates Instant Impact!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a title=\"Magnolia Grandiflora Flowers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/large-image-extra\/maggran\/129\/magnolia-grandiflora.html\">Magnolia Grandiflora<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>This magnificent <a title=\"evergreen screening\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/evergreenscreening.html\">evergreen<\/a> magnolia tree is called grandiflora due to its massive showy flowers and large, shiny, dark green, leathery leaves (the undersides of which are an unusual copper colour).<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_397\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/maggran\/magnolia-grandiflora.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-397\" class=\"size-full wp-image-397\" title=\"Magnolia Grandiflora - Specimen Trees\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/magnolia-bushy-600.jpg\" alt=\"Magnolia Grandiflora is a large evergreen tree with beautiful scented flowers in late summer\" width=\"600\" height=\"357\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Magnolia Grandiflora | aka Bull Bay Trees | Large Magnolia&#8217;s are for sale at Paramount Plants<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It is different from most other magnolias in that it keeps its leaves throughout the year and flowers late Summer rather than Spring.\u00a0 Also, although it loses a few leaves in spring\/summer when new foliage appears, it does not have the massive leaf shed that many magnolias are known for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magnolia Grandiflora<\/strong> does grow to heights over 6m but it is very slow growing and takes decades \u2013 over 100 years &#8211; to reach over 8m height from a young tree.\u00a0 It is a very useful tree for front gardens as it does not grow quickly and can easily be pruned to shape.\u00a0 It grows naturally in a cone shape and requires minimal pruning or maintenance and prefers to be planted in fairly sheltered rather than windy exposed areas.<br \/>\nGorgeous showy flowers appear in mid-summer (rather than other magnolias which generally flower in spring).\u00a0 The magnolia grandiflora flower is creamy white, saucer sized and has a wonderful citrus fragrance.
