Chamaecyparis – such a versatile Conifer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Commonly known as False Cypress<\/strong><\/em> or just ‘Cypress’<\/strong> <\/em>this amazing group of Conifers are fabulous to plant as specimen trees and some of the dwarf conifers are slow growing varieties which make them perfect additions to the rock garden or border. Over the years we’ve added more and more Chamaecyparis\u00a0to our Conifer collection and we’re pleased that we now have probably\u00a0the largest collection of Conifer varieties, especially the more mature trees in London and the South East.
\nChamaecyparis varieties are found in the wild in many countries, from North America to\u00a0Asia, where they are appreciated for their beautiful form, shape and variations. These accommodating trees are easy to grow and are very easy to train and are often the tree of choice for creating\u00a0Niwaki trees<\/a><\/strong> – also\u00a0referred to as garden bonsai<\/a><\/strong>. The intricate shapes – especially the cloud tree variations originate from the Far East and decorative topiary shapes using Chamaecyparis are popular in many US and Western European gardens.
\nHere we are showcasing some of our favourite varieties of these versatile and easy to grow Conifers<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Chamaecyparis Obtusa Nana – Hinoki Cypress<\/strong> – awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit – a sure sign it will perform well in UK gardens
\nIn Japan, the wood from the Hinoki Cypress tree<\/a><\/strong> is\u00a0highly prized and is commonly known as the\u00a0go-shin-boku<\/i> “divine tree” – wood from this tree is used for building\u00a0temples. Hinoki Cypress is a very pretty conifer that is relatively slow growing, evergreen and forms very unusual leaf formations creating ‘waves’ of stunning green foliage which retain their colour and form throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana Alumigold Topiary Tree<\/strong>
\nAlso referred to as\u00a0Chamaecyparis Alumii Gold<\/a> or\u00a0Chamaecyparis Alumni Gold – yes we know, very confusing… but these beautiful trees are fabulous either side of an entrance door (they grow well in containers) or in the border\u00a0or as part of a topiary garden or display. Once again\u00a0Chamaecyparis’ displays just how forgiving they are in terms of training and trimming – a neat trim once or twice a year is all that’s needed to keep these beautiful specimens in top shape.<\/p>\n

Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana Alumigold Topiary Trees<\/a> These half standard trees are\u00a01.65m <\/span>(5ft 4) tall – the image shows the actual size of the trees in this offer.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see from the plants above – the colour of\u00a0Chamaecyparis varies greatly and it is this variation in colours from one variety to another that makes them such an attractive choice of Conifer, so from the vibrant greens and golds above, we now highlight the blues and silvers:<\/p>\n

Chamaecyparis Lawsoniana Columnaris<\/strong><\/a> – conical shaped blue and silver foliaged trees that are wonderful as a specimen tree – the perfect punctuation in the border. They also create a very unusual and rather beautiful hedge, with densely packed foliage, planted in a row these make a\u00a0very beautiful evergreen screen – these specimens are already\u00a01.75-2m <\/span>(5ft 8-6ft 6) tall and are supplied as a rootball.<\/span><\/p>\n

In complete contrast these\u00a0Chamaecyparis Pisifera Boulevard<\/strong> <\/a>are also known as Blue Moss Cypress trees, displaying blue \/ green foliage but are trained as a garden bonsai. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit this is another little treasure that will look amazing in UK gardens – very easy to keep in shape.<\/p>\n

\nKnown as Elwoods Cypress these trees in their two contrasting colour combinations are Niwaki specimens, trained as topiary pom pom shaped columns their striking shapes and colours\u00a0provide so many possibilities as statement trees in garden designs.
