There is nothing more invigorating than getting up extra early to spend time in the garden before breakfast &#8211; watering and checking on your lovely garden. Drip feeding watering systems are available in most garden centres and can be a lifeline when you go away on holiday, delivering a small amount of water each day during hot weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Choose the right plants! <\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5357\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/shrubs.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5357\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/shrubs-for-shade.jpg\" alt=\"Choose shrubs and perennials for the border, buy online UK\" width=\"700\" height=\"468\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Choose shrubs and perennials for the border<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sounds so obvious but annual plants have very shallow roots that will dry out super fast in the heat, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/perennials.html\">perennials<\/a>, shrubs and trees have much larger and complex root systems that can cope with the dry surface of the soil because they are well rooted in deep soil. Lots of the Mediterranean style plants will just thrive in the heat &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/olive-and-fruit-trees.html\">Olive trees<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/plant\/fic\/ficus-carica.html\">Fig Trees<\/a>, Rosemary and Lavender will need less water.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5359\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/olive-and-fruit-trees.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5359\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5359\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paramountplants.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/olive-trees.jpg\" alt=\"olive trees for sale online UK\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5359\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Olive trees need less water as they are used to the Mediterranean sun, yet are perfectly at home in the UK climate<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mulch Mulch Mulch!<\/strong><br \/>\nSimilarly in the borders, make sure you give the soil a good layer of mulch, this will help to avoid evaporation from the soil, replace nutrients and improve the health of your soil. If you have a lawn, cut the grass longer to avoid the roots becoming dried out and use the grass clippings as a mulch, either fresh or dry. When you intend to plant take the plant out of the container and stand it in a bucket of water for at least one hour. Dig the hole &#8211; it needs to be at least one third larger all round than the rootball of the plant &#8211; fill this hole with water and allow it to drain before planting.
