 A relatively small deciduous variety of Hydrangea, Hydrangea Serrata Bluebird has deep green ovate foliage that turns to an attractive red colour in autumn. The flowers are large with a blue fertile central flower surrounded by showy lacecap sterile flowers that range from pale blue to pale pink. The color of the florets depends on the soil’s pH: acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 or lower will give you stunning blue blossoms, whereas neutral to alkaline soils with a pH 6.5 and higher result in dainty pink flowers. In addition to being quite decorative, the profuse blooms are also attractive to beneficial pollinators.

Hydrangea Bluebird has been awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM) -  a good sign this plant will perform well in most UK gardens.

One of the few Hydrangeas with good autumn colour, it will look spectacular from spring when its flowering season starts all the way to late in the autumn when its crimson foliage takes over. With an almost year-round interest, this flowering deciduous shrub makes a great accent plant or addition to mixed shrub borders. This compact Hydrangea variety can also be grown in containers and is a great addition to patios and rooftop gardens.
 
How To Care For Hydrangea Serrata Bluebird
This is a lovely domed shaped shrub that is easy to grow in most aspects with sun or partial shade. It loves a well-drained soil that can be neutral to acidic. Hydrangea Bluebird can also be grown successfully in containers, but it needs to be kept well watered in well-draining soil.
