Schefflera Arboricola is a low-maintenance architectural foliage plant with multi-branching stems each topped with a palmate umbrella of leathery green foliage. It’s an unfussy choice that can cope with some neglect and suits many positions throughout the house.
In the wilds of its native Taiwan, the wild Schefflera grows to 9 metres tall and sends down aerial roots to touch the ground. This dwarf variety will only reach a metre or so and bush out to create a fully-figured handsome structural plant that’s said to capture good luck and wealth with its ‘fingers’ in Feng Shui. Dwarf Umbrella Tree will purify the air and create a strong focal point, but it is mildly toxic if eaten so should be kept out of the reach of small children and pets that chew.

How To Water and Feed Schefflera Arboricola
Each week check whether the compost is damp. Once it has dried out down to a few centimetres soak it in a sink of water for a few hours and drain freely before replacing it. Don’t leave it sitting in a tray of water as soggy compost will rot the roots and eventually kill it. Too dry is better than too wet. It rarely needs fertilising, but a feed of liquid houseplant fertiliser twice a year in spring and summer will keep it looking its best.
Misting is not required but removing the dust from its leaves either with a damp cloth or under the showerhead will help it absorb more light and thrive.

How Much Light Does Schefflera Arboricola
Dwarf umbrella plant needs mid to bright indirect light. In very low light it may become leggy and in direct sunlight its foliage will scorch.
If it becomes leggy, simply cut it back to a pleasing shape - dwarf umbrella plant is tough enough to cope with pruning. After the trim, move it into a position with more indirect light.

Where To Put Schefflera Arboricola
The best spot for dwarf umbrella tree is near a bright window that’s out of direct sunlight.
It suits all rooms of the house and is remarkably tolerant of a range of conditions. It’s one of the sturdiest houseplants able to cope with neglect while looking good and purifying the air with its leafy greenery.
Dwarf Umbrella Tree is a no-fuss, no-hassle houseplant that’s perfect for beginners.
