Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids, also known as Coral Bells, is an excellent groundcover plant, with both evergreen leaves and lovely flowers to recommend it to gardeners. This hardy perennial can find a place in gardens all across the UK!
Native to the south-western United States, Coral Bells have become very popular here in the UK, where they have been grown since the 1600’s. Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids were developed in the 20th Century by Alan Bloom at Bressingham Nursery, and are a favourite of gardeners. The rounded, slightly scalloped deep green leaves persist year-round, and in the spring through early summer there are many spikes of dainty, bell-shaped flowers in shades of red, pink or white. Bees and other beneficial insects will flock to Coral Bells, which also make excellent cut flowers in mixed arrangements. If the spent flower stems are removed when blooming is finished in the late spring or early summer, the flowers will come back in August and September.
Hardy throughout the UK, Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids will form low clumps of leaves to a height of 13 cm, with the flower spikes reaching to 40 cm. If planting in a group, space plants 25 cm apart. Coral Bells benefit from being divided every 3 or 4 years when the crowns become too woody.
Plant Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids in full sun or partial shade in well-drained sand or loam with a neutral ph. Deer and rabbit resistant, they are a great choice for a groundcover plant on a country property. Once established they are drought-tolerant, although it is best to avoid a dry spot in full sun.
\r\nBecause of its hardiness, small size and evergreen foliage, as well as its lovely flowers, Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids make an excellent container plant for a rooftop terrace, courtyard, or patio, where they will provide year-round interest. Planted in shade or sun, Coral Bells make an attractive ground cover alongside a pathway or in a woodland garden. A small clump of Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids will fit into a mixed border, where both its foliage and flowers will be of value to the gardener. They are also a great choice for a rock or alpine garden.
Heuchera Bressingham Hybrids have both dependable evergreen foliage and delicate, abundant flowers to stake their claim to a spot in your garden, large or small, city or country!
