Maranta Fascinator is a colourful, low-growing tropical originating from the Brazilian rainforests. It’s one of the Prayer Plant family that moves their leaves to capture light. This fascinating jungle plant is vivid and eye-catching with two shades of green, a ribbed centre, red undersides, and threaded pink lines that resemble veins but the most fascinating aspect is its ability to move its leaves. During the day, Maranta Fascinator holds its foliage upright and open but as the sun fades it lowers and folds its leaves as if it’s praying. This fascinating habit is called nyctinasty and is why it’s more commonly called the Prayer Plant. The Prayer Plant is a rainforest floor native and needs a good deal of humidity to thrive. It naturally grows to about 30 centimetres tall in a clump near the base of a tree to catch water and likes consistently moist but not soggy soil.  This is one of the plants that will love it in your steamy bathroom or kitchen but will cope with other positions if you remember to mist it regularly.

How To Water and Feed Maranta Fascinator
Check Prayer Plant twice a week and when the compost feels dry on top, soak it in the sink and let it drain. In the summer Prayer Plant will need more water than in the winter months. If you don’t have it in a steamy bathroom, try placing Prayer Plant on a tray of damp shingle to encourage moisture, especially if you have the central heating on. In spring and summer, a fortnightly feed of weak houseplant fertiliser will boost its health. Regular misting to remove dust and increase humidity levels is important otherwise the foliage tends to crisp up and die.

How Much Light Does Maranta Fascinator Need?
This is a jungle floor plant so it needs indirect light. Sunlight on its foliage is too harsh and will scorch its gorgeous patterns.

Where To Put Maranta Fascinator
A light but shaded position near a bathroom or kitchen window is ideal. The more indirect light you can give it, the brighter its lime green and pink colours become. Prayer Plant is easy-care with infinitely interesting leaf movement if humidity levels are to its liking and the compost is not allowed to dry out. It’s a real favourite with children and houseplant collectors,
