Pittosporum Tenuifolium Bannow Bay is an evergreen dwarf variegated shrub with fragrant purple flowers in spring. It makes excellent low hedging in warmer areas of the UK.

Pittosporum Tenuifolium is native to New Zealand and the variety Bannow Bay is a sport of the established Tom Thumb. The variegated foliage emerges cream and green maturing to pink, cream and olive green over the summer. Leaves turn darker pink to red in the winter months. In early summer tiny bell-shaped purple flowers emerge which are highly scented and very attractive to pollinators. These flowers mature into black seed capsules in autumn.

Pittosporum Tenuifolium Bannow Bay is a colourful and versatile evergreen that brightens a winter garden but should be protected against harsh frosts.

There’s no need to prune this variegated ornamental shrub as it naturally grows in a small rounded dome, but you can remove branches and trim back in winter if required. Mulch well in spring for the best foliage and water well until established.
