Buddleja Davidii Pink Panther Butterfly Bush

Buddleja Davidii Pink Panther is a mid-sized deciduous buddleja or Butterfly Bush with large fragrant pink blooms from July to October. It’s a new variety with an upright habit that’s suitable for compact gardens and informal sunny flower borders. 

Buddleja Davidii is native to Japan and central China’s Sichuan and Hubei provinces. It was named after the botanist explorers Reverend Adam Buddle and Father Armand David. The first buddlejas were sold on the British market in the 1890s and they’ve remained a garden favourite for over a hundred years.

The cultivar Buddleja Davidii Pink Panther is a new pink cultivar with orange eyes. Its flowers range from pale pink to dark pink cones that bloom abundantly from mid-summer to autumn. The flowers are loved by pollinators, especially butterflies, hence its common name Butterfly Bush. Its foliage is lance-shaped and dark green on long white-grey branches.

Two of the outstanding aspects of Butterfly Bush Pink Panther are its upright habit and its tendency to flower from a young age.

This is a lovely pink buddleia for countryside borders and urban containers. It’s a butterfly magnet and very easy to grow.

This is a tidy and compact new buddleja that suits mixed informal flower borders in country cottage-style gardens and low-maintenance wildlife-friendly spaces. Buddleja is a good way to brighten up a chalky garden, slopes and woodland spaces. You can grow Butterfly Bush Pink Panther in a large well-watered and fed container on a balcony to create colour or attract butterflies to urban courtyards.

How To Care For Buddleja Davidii Pink Panther
Butterfly bush is very easy to grow and care for. It prefers a sunny to a partially sunny spot, but will flower more heavily in full sun.
Buddleja grows on the majority of soils, including chalk and sand, in exposed or sheltered spots. It’s tolerant of most conditions except waterlogged soil. As its pink flowerheads turn brown, deadhead them to encourage new blooms.
Buddleja Davidii Pink Panther is best hard pruned down to a foot in height during March before the new growth arrives. Hard pruning prevents it from getting leggy. The best flowers emerge on its new season growth.
Container-grown buddlejas need regular water and good quality fertiliser to thrive. Be sure to prop the container on feet to ensure good drainage, especially in the winter when wet soil freezes.
