Cornus Kousa Big Apple is an RHS AGM-winning elegant flowering dogwood with deciduous foliage, beautiful white flower bracts and edible fruit. It’s a good choice for large mixed borders, kitchen gardens, and low-maintenance courtyards.

Cornus, also known as dogwood, are a large genus of flowering shrubs and trees from the east. Cornus Kousa originates from Japan where it grows in lightly shaded woods and forest edges.

The cultivar Cornus Kousa Big Apple is an especially pretty variety of dogwood. It has large dark green leaves in early spring and a prominent display of showy white flowers. Its flowers are large four petalled beauties in showy white bracts. They can reach up to 14 centimetres long and cover the tree on mature specimens.
Fruits follow its flowers in late summer, Huge edible red berries reach four centimetres in width and hang from its strong branches hence the name ‘Big Apple’. The fruits resemble hard raspberries and have a creamy taste.
In winter, the foliage deepens to dramatic red and falls to reveal a branching framework of attractive brown stems that are perfect supports for fairy lights.
