Ginkgo Biloba Mariken is a full standard, deciduous tree with leathery fan-shaped leaves, that turn a brilliant golden yellow in autumn. Although Ginkgo Biloba trees have much to commend them, not least their ability to survive virtually unchanged since Jurassic times, they are perhaps most prized from their stunning autumn foliage.
Also known as the Maidenhair tree (we believe due to the unusually beautiful foliage which resembles the Maidenhair fern), the Ginkgo Biloba is the only species of this GINKGO genus (Ginkgophyta) to survive, the other species being now extinct. As a genus, Ginkgo Biloba trees are believed to be 150 million years old and belong to what is known as a deciduous conifer family.
Native to China, a Ginkgo Biloba tree is capable of living up to 2000 years old. This variety Ginkgo Biloba Mariken is a dwarf variety with a nice, compact growth habit, making it most suitable for smaller gardens. Due to its compact size, these slow growing Ginkgo Biloba Mariken trees will perform well in containers for patios, terraces and courtyards.
AS GINKGO TREES GO, THIS TYPE OF FULL STANDARD SHAPE IN THIS SIZE IS VERY RARE:
Our Ginkgo Biloba Mariken tree are already 2.5 metres tall and have been carefully grown as a beautiful full standard shape.
As with most Ginkgo Biloba trees, Ginkgo Biloba Mariken likes full sun and will grow in any well drained moist fertile soil.
Adding to its allure, the Ginkgo tree has had many culinary and medicinal uses down through the ages, and indeed still has today.
A legacy tree, Ginkgo Biloba Mariken will add a dash of colour to any size garden from spring through to summer and autumn.
