Pinus Mugo Carsten's Wintergold
This slow growing but very attractive conifer was discovered by German, Erwin Carsten and is named after him - the common name is Carsten's Wintergold. This is such a beautiful plant, particularly during the winter months - the stunning golden foliage gives a fabulous beacon of colour and it is slow and very manageable, you can either leave it to naturally mature or give a yearly prune around late Spring and if you want to shape the tree this should be done in August - well in time for the coming winter.
The compactness of this conifer make this a perfect choice for town gardens working well in fashionable, contemporary garden designs and of course in Japanese style gardens.
As this tree originates from an alpine habitat, it prefers a very well drained soil and is wind tolerant.
