Pinus Nigra ‘Austriaca’

Pinus Nigra ‘Austriaca’ or Austrian Pine is a member of the European Black Pine family. It is a fast growing conifer when young. Once fairly mature, it develops into an absolutely beautiful conifer that naturally forms a striking pyramid-style shape. Evergreen foliage provides interest all year round. The needles are longer and greener then the Scots Pine.

Pinus Nigra Austriaca is an extremely hardy conifer. It will put up with blistering cold winds and extreme frost. It is also tolerant of salt water in the air and spray so it’s a very good tree for exposed windy coastal areas, where the soil is sandy and where less hardy plants can suffer badly from wind and slat burn.

Pinus Nigra ‘Austriaca’ is a good choice of pine tree for poor soil and limited water access.

Pinus Nigra ‘Austriaca’ prefers full sun and it will grow in almost any soil.

Given the right conditions, Pinus Nigra Austriaca can reach heights of up to 30 metres.
