Rhododendron Dopey (AGM)

Rhododendron Dopey is a semi-dwarf, low growing rhododendron. A Yakushimanum hybrid, it shares their characteristics of compact, slow and low growing, free flowering evergreens. It has a naturally neat dome-shape and needs little pruning. It will reach a height of 1.5 metres over 10 years, making this plant ideal for smaller gardens.

Rhododendron Dopey flowers mid-season and produces a fantastic display of bloom in late spring with trusses of deep red flowers that slightly fade at the edges. Another advantage is it tends to keep its flower colour better than most other red flowering Yakushimanum hybrids. It is a dense compact shrub with mid green foliage.

Try planting this Rhododendron with other flowering shrubs in a mixed border or as low short hedge. It can also look spectacular lining a driveway or entrance. This variety grows well in pots and containers for patios.

Rhododendron Dopey likes partial shade and acidic soil. Apply a good mulch and feed with ericaceous fertilizer to prevent foliage from yellowing.

This plant has received the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
