Evergreen Photina Red Robin is a perfect plant for achieving contrast in the garden. As its bright red new foliage emerges in spring and mingles with the clean, crisp dark green of the older leaves, Photinia Red Robin can create a startling colour / contrast effect in the garden when planted as a companion to plants with contrasting texture, colour and /or foliage.
Examples that are sure to catch the eye include planting a Photinia Red Robin with conifers, which will have a completely different texture of foliage and usually a contrasting colour. In case the yellow green foliage of the conifer is beautifully offset by the rich green of the Red Robin bush while its new red shoots sparkle like jewels.
Fatsia Japonica is usually grown for its foliage. It also grows very well in the shade. Here, partnered with a Photinia Red Robin bush, it creates a lush, tropical look. Again the contrasting greens of the foliage and the dappled red of the young Photinia leaves form a striking backdrop.
Photinia Red Robin is one of our most popular plants. It is very versatile and comes in many shapes and sizes. It is usually grown as a stand-alone bush, a full standard tree, red robin topiary. We also have Photinia Red Robin Pleached Trees. Below, a mature Photinia Red Robin bush completes the colour palette in this arrangement of a topiary yew in rich dark green and deep red tulips. An olive branch muscles in on the right!
