Pinus Sylvestris Watereri is a small, slow growing cultivar of Scots Pine which is commonly known as Walter Pine. It can be grown as a tree or a shrub and as it matures it forms a low growing yet upright, pyramid shape that is almost as wide as it is high. At maturity, if grown as a tree, it forms multiple branches and has a gentle dome shape, it tolerates being clipped very well - so it is suitable for shaping and the young trees are often used in the creation of bonsai.
Its very attractive, densely compact, needle-like leaves are fragrant and a stunning bright blue/silver colour.
This is one of our more unusual pine trees - it will creat a lovely focal point in any garden and it's compact size suits town gardens particularly well. The yellow flowers give way to hanging cones which sometimes form in groups.

Preferring full sun with a good tolerance to wind this tree is happy with coastal breezes and is useful in a sheltered spot on a roof terrace.
Like most pines - it likes a sandy well drained/dryish soil a little on the acidic side is best.
