Acer Palmatum is one of the best known of the Japanese Maple tree varieties and is sometimes referred to as the Japanese Smooth Maple tree. These Acers originate from lower altitudes throughout central and southern Japan, they originally grew under the canopy of larger trees in woodlands.
Acer Palmatum Trees prefers a moist, rich, well drained soil in partial shade and should be sheltered from winds to prevent leaf burn. It’s very important not to let Japanese Acers dry out during the hot summer months. They will reward you by producing a magnificent display of leaf colours in the autumn, turning warm yellows, vibrant oranges and shades of red, creating spectacular shapes and sometimes decorative bark texture and colour.
Most popularly included in any Japanese garden design, these trees are also beautiful when planted as a specimen tree, or as a singular statement tree.
