Aralia Elata or Japanese Angelica Tree

The Japanese Angelica Tree (Latin name Aralia Elata) is a stunning, exotic-looking ornamental tree with large architectural foliage which can reach sizes of over 1 metre in length. The leaves come off of a spiny main stem and are made up of over 70 leaflets.

In the late summer & autumn, clusters of white flowers appear which are then followed by bunches of purple berries. The flowers are adored by bees and the berries are very popular with the birds.

Grow Aralia Elata in partial shade in a nice humus rich moist soil. It will also grow well in full sun. The leaves turn a beautiful deep crimson during Autumn.

Japanese Angelica will reach a maximum height of approx. 5 metres.

The Japanese Angelica Tree enjoys the RHS Award of Garden Merrit.
