Phormium Tenax Variegated is commonly known as New Zealand Flax, a highly ornamental plant with striking sword shaped lime green leaves striped and margined with a yellow / cream colour. Phormium Tenax Variegated produces very attractive tubular flowers from July to August. An incredibly architectural grass which is originally from New Zealand they grow extremely well in the UK climate achieving a maximum height of around 2 metres with a maximum spread of 1metre - Phormiums are quite a striking addition to any garden and will grow really well in coastal areas. Phormium Tenax Variegated prefers full sun but is quite tolerant of partial shade. Frost hardy Phormiums will grow in most fertile well drained soil, when planting, back-fill with soil mixed with peat substitute and a suitable fertiliser.

Many other varieties of Phormiums available please also read our blog on phormiums for more information.  Phormiums are very useful for adding structure and colour to the garden.
