Cedrus Atlantica Glauca Pendula is also known as Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar. This stunning weeping variety of the Blue Atlas Cedar tree has striking blue needles and its dramatic weeping branches with glaucous blue-green sharply pointed needle-like leaves makes it an interesting choice of conifer for the garden. In fact, there is very little doubt that the Cedrus atlantica Glauca Pendula will become the focal point of any garden. This stunning Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar tree has striking blue needles that stand out in stark contrast against other garden greens. Its dramatic weeping twisted branches feature glaucous blue-green pointed needle-like leaves. No two Weeping Blue Atlas Cedars look alike in growth. Each one develops its own unique shape and form.
A native of the Atlas Mountains of Algeria and Morocco, the Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar grows to a height of 3 meters with a width of about 6 meters. It grows well in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Plant in a location with well-draining, fertile soil. It grows best in a site that features well-drained, acidic loam soil. However, it can adapt to other types of soil but the growth might not be as dramatic. Keep the soil moist, but not overly waterlogged for the first year after planting. Once the tree is established, it is relatively drought tolerant. Fertilize once per year with a general purpose fertilizer.
To create the desired shape, the Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar does require some staking and training as the tree becomes established. If the tree is not trained and staked when first started, it will grow close to the ground. Choose a planting site that offers protection from strong winds.
The Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar can be pruned, but remove no more than a ⅓ of the tree. Prune during the tree’s winter dormancy.
The blue beauty of the Cedrus Atlantica Glauca Pendula is truly unparalleled. Its twisting form and unique colouration make it must have specimen for any landscape. It is an easy hardy evergreen tree to grow
