Magnolia Soulangeana Satisfaction
Magnolia Soulangeana Satisfaction is an extremely pretty, new little variety of Magnolia with a neat compact growth habit. In contrast to its somewhat larger relatives, Magnolia Satisfaction will reach a maximum height of about 2 metres, making it a better choice for urban or smaller gardens.
However what really makes this variety the Magnolia of choice for gardeners in the know are its wonderfully fragrant, two-tone flowers that appear in abundance in late spring. By April and lasting into May, it will be covered with large showy cream coloured flowers flushed with deep pink on the outside with a creamy white on the inside. The flowers are cup-shaped and are profuse.
Because Magnolia Soulangeana Satisfaction blooms in April, it tends to avoid any lingering cold spells and spring frosts, which helps the blooms last even longer.
Like all Magnolia Soulangeana, Satisfaction is a deciduous tree that produces its flowers before it’s the arrival of its fresh green foliage.
Magnolia Soulangeana Satisfaction needs surprisingly little maintenance. Generally, it’s best not to prune Magnolias – unless absolutely necessary – but this is not a problem given the compact growing habit of this variety.
In terms of soil preference, Magnolias are not lime lovers and do best in a neutral to acidic soil that is well drained.
