Phormium Tricolour - Phormium Cookianum Subsp Hookeri Tricolour.
This is a wonderful evergreen, clump forming, ornamental grass with lovely yellow green stripped leaves with a red margin. Originating from New Zealand in the 1880s and commonly known as New Zealand flax,  Phormiums thrive in the UK climate and are especially useful in coastal areas where the choice of plants is limited.

This plant is a striking architectural grass which will add real structure to a border. Its leaves are dramatically edged with creamy-yellow narrowly margined with red. In summer, Phormium Tricolour produces yellowish-green flowers in large panicles. Please note that only mature plants tend to flower.

It is capable of reaching 1-1.5 metres in height and 1.5-2.5metres  wide. Phormium Tricolour likes a sunny position but will grow happily in shade as well.

Uses: This is a great plant for exotic displays.
The Cookianum family of phormiums differ from the Phormium Tenax family in that the Cookianum grasses are smaller in stature and have thiner, greener and more flexible leaves.

Phormium Cookianum Tricolour is also commonly referred to as Mountain Flax Tricolor. AGM since 1993.
