Rhododendron Halfdan Lem
Most of the rhododendrons grown in gardens today are evergreen hybrids, which vary significantly in terms of colour, shape and size. Rhododendron Halfdan Lem is a medium sized rhododendron hybrids, capable of reaching heights of up to 2.5 metres over a 10 year period or indeed 5 metres over its lifetime.
Rhododendron Halfdan Lem is a vigorous, upright grower that produces an abundance of flowers from May to June. The flowers are funnel-shaped and deep red in colour, fading to slightly lighter towards the centre. The blooms grow in conical shaped trusses of 12.
The evergreen foliage is glossy dark green and acts as a vividly contrasting backdrop to the stunning red flowers in early summer.
Rhododendron Halfdan Lem has a significant impact on the garden when in flower and it works very well in mixed borders with other flowering shrubs or as a stand-alone tree or bush. We also think this rhododendron would make a spectacular flowering hedge, particularly where the soil is slightly acidic. It has all the characteristics required for a good hedge – evergreen, vigorous, upright grower and it is hardy and can be clipped.
Flexible in terms of aspect, you can plant Rhododendron Halfdan Lem in either full sun or partial shade. Feed and mulch regularly to keep soil moist and acidic.
