Rhododendron Horizon Monarch is another Rhododendron hybrid with an Award Garden of Merit (AGM) badge by the Royal Horticultural Society. It is an impressive hybrid with stunning yellow flowers, yet less fussy and easier to please than many.
Each late spring, Rhododendron Horizon Monarch produces red buds that open into pale yellow flowers with pink tones in May. The flowers have a funnel shape and maintain a reddish flare at their centre. They grow in large showy circular clusters of about 20 blooms.
The evergreen handsome dark green foliage is the perfect contrasting backdrop to offset the truly stunning flowers.
Rhododendron Horizon Monarch fits into the medium category of Rhododendron hybrids. It will reach a maximum height within 10 years of between 1.5 and 1.8 metres, which is a perfect size for the urban garden.
In terms of aspect, this variety likes partial shade.
As with all Rhododendrons, plant in acidic soil. Feed during flowering with ericaceous fertilizer and it will benefit from a regular mulch.
