Acer Palmatum Shaina (Japanese Maple Shaina)

Acer Palmatum Shaina (Japanese Maple Shaina) is a compact little tree, a dwarf Japanese Maple in fact, with the most brilliant flaming red new foliage in the spring. In the summer, the foliage turns a deeper burgundy red and finally changes to a fantastically deep crimson in the autumn. A riot of red colour, this little Acer will punch well above its weight in terms of injecting a blast of fiery red to your garden or terrace.

Acer Palmatum Shaina will naturally grow into a lovely mound-shape to around 1.5 metres high by 1.5 metres wide. If you would rather keep it smaller, it is easy to trim. It prefers full sun (which helps it produce more vibrant foliage colour) but tolerates partial shade.

Japanese Maples or Acers are famous around the world for their brilliant autumn colour and the elegance of their form. Acers are a treasured plant in any style of garden and are particularly suitable for growing in pots. When grown in containers, this slows down the growth rate.

Why not combine low growing acers in your garden with upright Japanese maples? Japanese Acers look fantastic planted together where they provide a tapestry of colour through spring, summer and autumn.
