RHS Perfect for pollinators logo AGM plants have been through a rigorous trial and assessment programme by the RHS and are deemed:

Rubus Idaeus Glen Ample Raspberry is an RHS AGM-winning deciduous raspberry cane with an abundant crop of sweet red raspberries in mid-season. Heavy cropper Glen Ample has spine-free canes, so it’s particularly suited to childrens’ gardens.

Rubus Idaeus is commonly known as the European raspberry, but it’s also native to North Asia. Raspberries have been cultivated for centuries and there are many different varieties available. Raspberry Glen Ample is one of the most popular cultivars on the market. This fruiting shrub has held the RHS AGM since 2000 and was re-affirmed in 2009 which attests to its excellent attributes.

Raspberry Glen Ample has luscious dark green foliage that appears in early spring, closely followed by tiny white pollinator-magnet flowers. It also holds the RHS Perfect for Pollinators badge because it’s so attractive to bees. Fruits mature to large red raspberries with excellent flavour in mid-summer. The crop is high but the fruit are recommended for freezing so there’s little waste.

This is one of the best mid-season raspberries around. It’s reliable, tasty and has spine-free canes.

Height And Spread of Rubus Idaeus Glen Ample
Raspberry Glen Ample is a compact raspberry bush. It reaches a maximum height of 2.5 metres and spreads over half a metre.

How Hardy Is Rubus Idaeus Glen Ample
If its roots are well-drained and it gets plenty of sun this is a hardy raspberry capable of tolerating the UK’s freezing wet winters. The RHS has noted its excellent disease resistance.

How To Use Rubus Idaeus Glen Ample
Raspberry Glen Ample suits warm kitchen gardens, sunny sun trap urban spaces, and mixed borders.
Its compact size makes it especially suitable for fruit cages and containers. You can grow this heavy cropping raspberry in raised beds or pots if they are well fed and watered or simply add it to your mixed border to attract pollinators and fruit-eating birds.
Glen Ample is recommended for freezing, so this is a good choice for jam makers too.

How To Care For Rubus Idaeus Glen Ample
Choose a sunny to partially sunny spot in a sheltered area and water well throughout the growing season because dry raspberry canes won’t develop fruit.
Add a thick, rich layer of organic mulch to the roots in spring especially if you have alkaline soil. Raspberry canes prefer neutral to acidic spots. If yours is very chalky consider raised beds or containers instead.
Prune all fruited canes to ground level in autumn and train new canes onto wire supports.
