Rhododendron Albert Schweitzer (AGM)

This hardy hybrid Rhododendron Albert Schweitzer is another award winning variety having received the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for its excellent overall performance. Albert Schweitzer is an evergreen shrub with dark green foliage and deep pink buds opening to rose pink flowers with dark red blotches. The blooms grow in trusses or clusters of circa 14. It is mid to late flowering.

Rhododendron Albert Schweitzer is a robust, upright and vigorous grower yet nonetheless with a neat, compact habit. It can achieve up to 2.5 to 4 metres in height and 1.5 to 2.5 metres in width. This is a perfect shrub for hedging or mixed borders with other flowering shrubs.

Rhododendrons are particular about their soil and prefer light well-draining acidic soils. Prepare your soil well when planting. Make sure to add lots of humus-rich compost and ericaceous fertiliser. In terms of aspect, full sun or partial shade are preferable.
