Skimmia Japonica Rubella is a stunning low growing evergreen plant. Its red buds start from late autumn and last until early spring when they change to white flowers. The flowers then last until late Spring. The rest of the year the evergreen foliage is bushy and dark green.

However, only the female varieties of Skimmia produce berries but generally in order to do so, they require the presence of a male Skimmia nearby. Skimmia Japonica Rubellais a male variety of Skimmia and as such it won’t produce berries. But it is widely acknowledged an excellent pollinator so plant it near a female variety of Skimmia such as Skimmia Japonica Kew White which produces stunning white berries or Skimmia Japonica Pabella for red berries.
