Chamaecyparis Pisifera Plumosa Aurea Bonsai - this is a small topiary-shaped tree with a very cute bonsai-style appearance with balls of foliage at the ends of each branch resembling pom poms. Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Plumosa Aurea’ is also called the Sawara Cypress. It is an evergreen compact dense bonsai-style topiary tree. It features light yellow foliage during the spring months. As summer arrives, the foliage darkens with age to a soft yellow-green hue. The Sawara Cypress has a unusaual bark with a brilliant reddish brown colour that readily peels away in unusual strips. Tiny pine cones often appear that stand out in stark contrast against the tree’s foliage colouration.
This little Chamaecyparis Pisifera Plumosa Aurea Topiary Pom Pom Tree loves full sun or partial shade. It grows well in moist fertile soil. For optimum growth, avoid letting the soil dry out. Ideally, the compact tree enjoys evenly moist soil that is well-draining. It does not tolerate a planting site with a high pH level.
This Sawara Cypress topiary tree makes a beautiful little specimen bonsai-style plant that will look amazing in any size garden. Plant in a sheltered location away from strong winds. For healthy growth, the tree benefits from an application of general purpose fertilizer once a year. Prune the Sawara Cypress once or twice a year with garden shears to maintain its unique topiary form. Make sure that sunlight can readily reach all of the tree’s branches and foliage. To maintain its bonsai size and topiary appearance, you should pinch back about a ⅓ of the branch’s new growth tip. Pinching encourages the tree’s branches to grow in a distinctive horizontal fan-like fashion.
Chamaecyparis pisifera Plumosa Aurea is easy to grow and maintain in a bonsai form that looks fantastic in any landscape or when grown as a container specimen. The tree grows well if kept in pots.
