Grasses

Adding Texture and Architectural Interest

Ornamental grasses are wonderful plants for introducing texture and architecture into your garden design, they also come in a fabulous range of colours. They are mostly quite hardy but do best in well-drained soil in a sunny part of the garden.  Astelia Silver Spear is a good architectural grass and do well in pots they do need some winter protection but evergreen fronds make for good winter interest.
Carex grasses tend to be more hardy but prefer sunny, moist soil to keep their beautiful colours.
Phormiums are stunning architectural plants in a wide range of colours - they do need full sun and can grow to be quite large some reaching 2 metres high and 1 metre across.
Miscanthus Grasses are beautiful architectural forms especially when the seed heads dry out during Autumn months
