Cornus Kousa Samaritan Variegated

If you are looking for a white-blooming ornamental tree for your garden, it’s well worth taking a closer look at Cornus Kousa Samaritan Variegated. Samaritan is a relatively new variety of Cornus Kousa Samaritan (Flowering Dogwood) that is extra-hardy and has attractive variegated foliage.

As with other varieties of Cornus Kousa or flowering dogwoods, Samaritan produces profuse showy white blooms in late spring / early summer, just after its new foliage has settled in. The bracts first emerge as green and then turn to bright white.

In terms of ornamental value, Cornus Kousa Samaritan has much to offer. It produces massive clusters of smaller white flowers, over which showy white bracts appear and last for around 3 weeks, creating an amazing early summer display. The blooms are offset against the variegated foliage which is mainly a luscious green with creamy-white interspersed.

In autumn, Cornus Kousa Samaritan produces sweet, red fruits which are edible but also adored by birds and other wildlife. And just when you think it's all over for the year, the leaves will dramatically change colour before they fall.

In winter, as the tree matures it's bark exfoliates and turns brown and silver for added effect.

Other advantages of Cornus Kousa Samaritan Variegated are little or no maintenance is required. It has a naturally upward growth habit and will reach about 6 metres on maturity.

Cornus Kousa Samaritan prefers either full sun or partial shade and prefers acidic soil if possible.
