Abies Balsamea Nana, also known as Dwarf Balsam Fir, is a beautiful, slow-growing dwarf evergreen conifer. A North American species, Abies Balsamea Nana has a dense, compact growth habit and an attractive rounded or mound-type form. This, together with its refined and rich dark green needles which emerge bright green in the spring, make Abies Balsamea Nana an attractive decorative garden evergreen for smaller spaces. It brings interest to the garden all year round with its light green new growth changing to a dark green as the foliage matures, that looks fresh even in winter.
In terms of aspect, Abies Balsamea Nana is flexible and will grow in full sun or in partial shade. It does prefer slightly acidic, well drained soil but should thrive in most soil conditions.
Over its lifetime, this Dwarf Balsam Fir will reach a maximum height and spread of circa 1 metre. For this reason, it is popular in rockeries or as part of a detail planting.
As its name suggests, Dwarf Balsam Fir has fragrant foliage with a balsam scent.
