Loropetalum Chinense - Full Standard Form of this Tree on a Clear Stem
Loropetalum Chinense Standard is an evergreen tree with unusual white fringed flowers in early spring. It’s a beautiful wildlife-friendly specimen tree for compact gardens. This is a standard form of Loropetalum with a single straight trunk absent of lower branches for the first 1.8 metres. It looks stunning in a mixed border or as a specimen in the lawn or front garden.

Often called the Chinese Fringe tree Loropetalum Chinense is native to China and the Himalayas. It was first discovered and brought to the UK in 1880 by Victorian plant hunters and was instantly popular for its long petalled blooms that resemble a fringe.

With dark evergreen foliage and its unusual scented flowers that bloom in early spring, Standard Chinese Fringe tree is a real highlight in a bare winter garden. Pollinators love its early white fringe flowers and birds appreciate its thick overlapping foliage.

Height And Spread of Loropetalum Chinense Standard
A Standard Loropetalum Tree can reach a height of four metres and spread across the same. To maintain the standard tree-shape, prune once per year.

How Hardy Is Loropetalum Chinense Standard
This is a hardy standard or clear stem tree that tolerates below zero temperatures if its roots are well-drained. In its native environment it grows in the shelter of larger trees and can cope with some drought.

How To Use Loropetalum Chinense Standard
Small to medium sized gardens in need of a well-chosen pretty tree can’t go wrong with a Standard Loropetalum. It is aften used for screening above the hedgeline.

If you have fruit trees, fruiting shrubs, or a vegetable garden Loropetalum Chinense is a good way to attract pollinators early in the season. Plant yours in a mixed border, a front garden, or in the lawn as a specimen tree for 12 months of colour and a hit of fragrance in the early cold spring days.

How To Care For Loropetalum Chinense Standard
Standard Loropetalum Tree is low maintenance if you can find a sunny position that’s protected from strong winds. It will struggle to flower in cold spots so near taller trees or a wall is best.

It prefers rich fertile soil but it will tolerate the majority of well-drained to dry soils. Apply a thick layer of mulch to its roots in early spring to boost nutrients and trap moisture.
