AGM plants have been through a rigorous trial and assessment programme by the RHS and are deemed:
Excellent for ordinary use in appropriate conditions/Available to buy/Of good constitution/Essentially stable in form & colour/Reasonably resistant to pests & diseases

Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis is a small RHS AGM-winning upright evergreen conifer with prickly blue-green needles. It’s a good choice for architectural mixed borders, rockeries, and low-maintenance gardens.

Juniper Chinensis is the Chinese Juniper tree that’s native to China and the Far East. The cultivar Chinese Juniper Pyramidalis was introduced from Japan in 1863 and it’s still a popular choice for UK gardens. It’s a male tree, so no messy berries, with dense upright branches and prickly aromatic blue-green needles.

As its name implies this variety grows in a pyramid shape, but it remains short and narrow enough for compact gardens and rockeries.

This juniper is handsome, but it’s one of the lowest care requirement plants you can grow.

Height and Spread of Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis
Chinese Juniper Pyramidalis is very slow growing. It reaches a maximum height of 50 cms - 1 metre by 50 cms wide over ten years.

How Hardy is Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis
Juniper species are hardy plants and this is no exception. In free-draining soil Chinese Juniper Pyramidalis copes with freezing temperatures, drought, and pollution.

How To Use Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis
This small tree is a dependable low-growing choice for a rockery and an outstanding architectural feature for both mixed borders and low-maintenance foliage gardens. It copes with urban courtyard heat and freezing exposed country borders.
Because it’s so slowing growing and compact, this juniper suits containers if they are well fed and watered. One on either side of a pathway or feature creates a green framework with instant striking impact.

How To Care For Juniperus Chinensis Pyramidalis
Chinese Juniper Pyramidalis is easy to grow and requires very little care. It tolerates pollution, drought and exposed spots if it’s planted in well-drained soil. It’s tough enough to cope with sand, chalk and clay in full sun or partial shade.
Apply lots of well-rotted organic manure to its roots in spring and water it well until you can see new growth. Pruning is not required.
