Azalea Golden Eagle is another brilliant Knaphill azalea. Knaphill azaleas were bred for their large, impressive flowers in vibrant colours which can be over 10 cm across. They are also great for autumn colour and in the case of deciduous Azalea Golden Eagle the autumn foliage has deep and intense shades of burgundy.
Azalea Golden Eagle flowering period is May to June. The flowers are a flamboyant reddish-orange with a prominent orange blotch. Azalea Golden Eagle has a nice, compact growing habit.
Knaphill azalea are compact shrubs, ideal for any sized garden and like all members of the rhododendron family they prefer light humus rich acidic soil. Deciduous azaleas prefer a sheltered semi shaded spot. They look superb in a woodland or semi woodland setting. Maximum height after 10 years 1.5m x1.5 metres.
Azalea Golden Eagle has received the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) from the RHS.
