Azalea Japonica Summer Sun
Slow growing, low-spreading, evergreen and with a reputation for profuse flowering, Azalea Japonica are ideal shrubs for small urban gardens or for planting in a spot restricted by space, as once they reach maturity, they will not alter significantly in size over a period of years.
Typical of the Japanese variety, Azalea Japonica Summer Sun is a slow growing, evergreen shrub that will grow up to 0.6 meters in height and 1.3 metres in spread. Deep green foliage makes a vividly contrasting background for the rich, red flowers. Blossom appears in late spring. This is an ideal plant to use for ornamental purposes. It looks very nice in mixed borders or on the patio in a container and of course is a must-have for any Japanese themed garden.
Azalea Japonica Summer Sun is one of the Satsuki varieties. Satsuki azaleas are quite compact and bushy growing but can be clipped to shapes in early July or soon after flowering. The Satsuki azalea is a hybrid group of azalea plants that are widely cultivated in Japan.
Azalea Japonica Summer Sun prefers partial shade or full sun and acidic, moist, free-draining soil.
All our Azalea plants have been trimmed and shaped on a regular basis and therefore have a nice, compact bushy shape and are ready for planting. When planting, the top of the root ball should be just below the surface of the soil.
